Elena has joined foodwatch in February 2024 and she has been collaborating closely with the foodwatch campaign teams, the International Campaign Director, and the Head of Brussels Office, leveraging her expertise to increase engagement among foodwatch supporters and fortify campaigns strategies. Elena serves as linking element between the international and the national context, providing insights and innovative ideas to amplify foodwatch impact and advocate for positive change.

Originally from Italy, Elena started her career in the animal welfare movement, focusing for over a decade to strive positive change for farmed animals. Her last role at Compassion in World Farming International was Global Head of Campaigns and Advocacy and she was responsible for all campaigns across all markets. Notable achievements include leading the "End the Cage Age" European Citizens Initiative campaign, which has influenced animal welfare legislative revisions proposed by the EU Commission in the Farm to Fork strategy. Additionally, her involvement in the public campaign on the Delegated Act - EU classification system for green investments resulted in agriculture being excluded, mitigating the threat of factory farming being recognised as sustainable. She has also project managed one of the biggest European investigation into farmed sows and ham products, securing a media reach of more than 2 billion. In her spare time and on a voluntary basis, Elena is part of the advisory board of Animal Policy International.

Her choice to join foodwatch came as the realisation that the modern food system is deeply broken, too often prioritizing profit over ethical and sustainable practices. Inefficiencies in food distribution, misleading practices of the food industry, and growing concern for malnutrition have served as driving force for joining a new and exciting adventure. With a genuine commitment to making a difference, the role of Senior Campaign Strategist presents an great opportunities to effect systemic change.
