Aspartame is found in thousands of products across Europe, including popular soft drinks such as Coca-Cola Zero, Sprite Zero and Pepsi Max. The sweetener has long been controversial. In 2023, the WHO’s International Agency for Research on Cancer classified it as possibly carcinogenic. Still, EU authorities insisted that normal consumption should be harmless.
